In exactly one month, Otesha’s 2015 West Coast Tour will kick off! Excitement is growing as our tour members gear up to promote sustainability to thousands of students while cycling through some of Canada’s most jaw-dropping landscapes.

It’s not too late to be part of this one-of-a-kind adventure—the deadline to apply for this year’s spring tour is Friday, April 10.

Callout for Training Week volunteers

Before our West Coast Tour members hit the road, they’ll gather at Southlands Heritage Farm in Vancouver for a week of training from May 2-11. We’ve got an awesome group of volunteers helping out to make Training Week a success, but still have a few roles open to fill, including a Food Coordinator (honorarium available), some cooking helpers and a few others.

Interested in helping out? Let us know what might tickle your fancy by filling out this form.

Tour member bios: Meet Annette and Jacqueline!

Year after year, we get to work with truly amazing changemakers. As the West Coast Tour approaches, we’ll be introducing you to these passionate sustainability advocates on our website, Facebook and Twitter. To kick things off, here’s a bit about two of our tour members.

Annette(1)Annette Johnson,
Papineauville, Quebec

Annette may have been raised in a small town, but she dreams BIG. After high school, she joined Canada World Youth to get to know herself better and to learn more about the world. After six months of volunteering in New Brunswick and Peru, she returned home with a burning desire to deepen her knowledge of sustainability, social justice and food ethics. Add to that her love for physical activities and Otesha seemed like the perfect fit! In September, she’ll be enrolling in post-secondary studies in arts and sciences where she plans to be known as the hippie/vegetarian/nerd in the hallways.

JacquelineJacqueline (Jax) Kaplan,
Los Angeles, California

There’s more to LA than palm trees and Hollywood stars. Meet Jacqueline. The 23-year-old aspiring artist strongly believes in the law of attraction of the universe and radiating positive vibes and good energy. Her current ambition is to document everything on her Otesha journey in the hopes of inspiring and educating others to adapt sustainable lifestyles, while simultaneously gaining personal growth and enlightenment. She’s convinced this will be her most challenging endeavour yet and couldn't possibly be more thrilled about the adventures to come!

How you can support our West Coast Tour members

Colorful Group Photo 2
Annette, Jacqueline and the other West Coast Tour members are hard at work fundraising to help cover the costs of their two-month journey. You can help too!

To support these young sustainability advocates, visit our donation page and select “2015 West Coast Tour Campaign” from the dropdown menu. Your donations will go toward covering the cost of their food, accommodations, logistics, training and other tour expenses.

Also, feel free to leave a message of encouragement with your donation and we'll be sure to share those with them!

Escape Bicycle Tours partners with Otesha!

We're super stoked to spread the word about the launch of Escape Bicycle Tours. Not only do they offer super cool urban and rural bike tours in the Ottawa area, but they'll also be donating 2.5 percent of every sale to Otesha in the form of a new bursary!

The Escape Bursary Fund will help prospective tour members who face financial difficulty paying their program fee, giving young changemakers from all walks of life the chance to make a difference.

Check them out and show them some love!

Last word

“This bike tour journey helped start a process of bringing hope to many... Through it all I found a sense of healing in being with a committed group of people who did everything together and who became like family to me. Who we became through this experience helped us realize who we are underneath it all and forged a powerful circle.”

– Harry Benedict,
2013 Nation to Nation Tour Member
