Hellooooooooo 2015!

Happy New Year everybody! The temperatures may be nippy, but things are heating up at Otesha, and we’re fired up for the year ahead.

Cycle for sustainability: Join an Otesha Tour in 2015

bike tour image 2Spaces in our cycling tours are filling up! Imagine spending two months with other changemakers passionate about social change and sustainability, pedaling your way through the islands and highlands of Canada’s West Coast.

Or maybe it’s the prospect of winding your way around the Bay of Fundy and immersing yourself in Acadian culture that stirs up the bike-loving butterflies in your belly.

Got an appetite for local and organic food? Then how does nine days visiting with local farmers and food advocates among the rolling hills of southern Ontario sound?

With three tours to choose from, make 2015 the year you do something truly awesome. Learn more and apply!

New year, new faces

2014-05-16 09.19.38What better way to kick off the New Year than by welcoming a new member to the Otesha crew? Hailing from Halifax, Emma Buchanan joins us as our new Program Coordinator! Fresh off the 2014 East Coast Tour, Emma will be organizing this year’s cycling adventures and supporting new tour members as they prepare for their own pedal-powered excursions. Awesome to have you on board, Emma!

Say hi to Emma at programs@otesha.ca.

Help us reach our goal of $10,000 so we can reach 10,000 youth in 2015!

fundraising imageWe kicked off our Couriers of Hope Fundraising Campaign last month, and as always, you stepped up! Otesha supporters donated more than $1,000 in December, an amazing step toward our goal of raising $10,000 so we can reach 10,000 youth with our cycling and performing tours this year.

If you’ve already made a donation, thank you! If you haven’t yet but would like to help us sustain another year of Otesha’s one-of-a-kind programming, please visit our donation page.

Changemakers Gallery & interactive map

In the face of climate change, the growing gap between rich and poor and other complex sustainability challenges, a hopeful future can be a tough sell. But that’s exactly what our Couriers of Hope tours in 2015 are all about!

To help fan the flames of hope, we're asking organizations and individuals to share their words of encouragement for young Canadians. Check out our gallery and explore our Couriers of Hope Map for inspiration from coast to coast.

Itching for an unforgettable experience? Maybe it’s time to grab life by the handlebars!

The Otesha Project is looking for curious, dedicated and adventuresome volunteers! The Otesha Project’s bicycle tours use interactive workshops, theatre presentations and experiential learning to engage people of all ages to take action for a more fair and sustainable future—for people and the planet.

Deepen your knowledge of environmental and social issues, gain skills in public engagement and alternative education, and empower yourself on a cycling adventure—all while having a laugh with diverse and inspiring teammates.

Tours are as short as nine days and as epic as two months. Spaces are being filled on a rolling basis and all levels of cycling experience (or inexperience!) are welcome. You can find all the juicy details at www.otesha.ca.

Last Word

To celebrate our new Changemakers Gallery, this month’s last word goes to Alex Kruize who works at the Good Life Bike Shop in Calgary, Alberta.

"A better world is possible! You have the power to build it! Dream big and then work hard to make it happen."
