Let the cliffs, culture, and concentration of sea life in Canada’s majestic Maritimes fuel your passion for sustainability and social justice. A 9 day training in bicycle skills, interactive theatre, community engagement, and facilitation techniques prepares your team to spark dialogue with thousands of students using Otesha’s play “Cycling Through Change” and “Action Addict” workshop. Wind your way around the Bay of Fundy and through the Annapolis Valley, learning from the Mi’kmaq, anglophone, and Acadian communities that welcome you.

Are you ready to jump in? Find out more about this velo-adventure from Fredricton to Halifax here. Applications for volunteers on Otesha's East Coast Tour are being accepted immediately.

Walking The Talk With The Otesha Project!

IMG_0614

On November 12th, The Otesha Project hosted our annual Organic Affair in Ottawa. The event was a great success! Here are a few highlights from the evening:
  • Over 160 people in the room chose to “Walk the Talk” with The Otesha Project.
  • The Otesha Book: From Junk to Funk was distributed for free to every attendee.
  • 20 volunteers from the Canada World Youth Program helped at the event.
  • A celebration of Otesha’s work in 2013 and the announcement of Otesha’s 2014 East Coast Tour, which is officially  open for applications now!

With the generous support of our community $6,690 was raised at the event in support of Otesha’s 2014 work! Otesha’s community of supporters and donors ensure that Otesha can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, communities and the world—we would not be able to do our work without you!

In the lead-up to the holiday gift giving season, please encourage your network to give a charitable donation to The Otesha Project. If you would like to give a charitable gift in an individual’s name, Otesha will send this individual a copy of The Otesha Project Book: From Junk to Funk as a token of our appreciation. Otesha's online donations are processed with Canada HelpsClick here to give a holiday donation today!

We are happy to help you in processing your donation, so please feel free to give our office a call if you have any questions. You can reach Otesha’s staff team at: 613-237-6065

Thank you again for your interest in an organization that is striving to empower young people to create sustainable change, and supporting a mission that is designed to transform people’s lives and our society in a positive way

KAIROS Blanket Exercise!

Blanket Exercise - Grade 6 Mississauga - 2010 2 2

An enormously popular and successful teaching tool that raises awareness of the Nation-to-Nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, this workshop reveals a history of Canada that most people do not learn. Blankets are laid on the floor to represent land, and you, the participants, "live" on the blankets, representing Indigenous peoples. Together, we trace the interaction of land, Indigenous peoples and settler peoples from pre-contact with Europeans to the present day. The workshop ends with discussion and ideas for further action.

This Blanket Exercise is offered in partnership with KAIROS Canada.

To arrange a workshop for your group in Eastern Ontario, contact Matt Schaaf, Nation to Nation Program Coordinator, matt@otesha.ca , 613 237 6065.

Outside of Eastern Ontario, contact Katy Quinn at KAIROS Canada, kquinn@kairoscanada.org, 613 235 9956 ext. 224
