Geez, that East Coast is rockin...

The East Coast Tour is shaping up to be an inspired and inspiring one! Kayla's been in a bit of a booking frenzy, (fueled by green tea, walnuts and a healthy stash of local carrots) and is excited not only for all the performing that the team will do, but also the formal skills experiences that this team will get, as they meet folks in who are truly 'walking the talk' in their communities. Tour members will have the chance to learn tangible change making skills from the folks at The Gaia Project, citizen groups working on Fracking Issues in the Penobsquis area, Capital City Cycles, Conservation Council of New Brunswick, Waldergrave Farm, The Tatamagouche Centre, The Ecology Action Centre and many more. And let's not forget about all those informal learning opportunities that crop up while on tour. If you, or someone you know is interested in experiencing, and developing or deepening some serious social/environmental change skills, you can apply here! And if you live on the East Coast and wish to book or host this new batch of Otesha cyclists, email kayla@otesha.ca.

Calling all Olumni on that 'der Atlantic Coast!

We have a group of enthusiastic soon-to-be Otesha-ites coming together this Spring in Fredericton for The East Coast Tour: Riding the Tides of Change.

As Olumni know, one of the most fun times of tour is the playfully awkward and excited first meeting of team mates, the confusing first bike ride to the training week site, the silly dance parties, yummy food and familiar friendly faces that abound at an Otesha Trianing Week. So, super skilled Olumni and supporters, sign up to volunteer at Training Week in Fredericton at the very beginning of May this year. Fill in the form found here where you will specify what dates you are available and what parts of Training Week you really want to get involved in (are you a theatre games guru? first aid buff? bike maintenance manatee? food sourcer-er? let us know!)

Story time with Olumni

We at Otesha HQ love to hear silly, fun and personal stories about Otesha adventures from past tour members. But what we love just as much is to share them with you, our Otesha family.

Erin, Janet and Tegan, three super star tour members from the 2013 West Coast Tour, wrote honest and personal reflections about their special time while on tour, which includes a few wise words of wisdom for aspiring changemakers who are thinking of participating on an Otesha adventure.

Why do we love to share stories so much? Well, storytelling is a small way to feel truly connected to the power of what someone experiences on an Otesha tour, and each in a unique way, these stories reflect the overall funkiness of an Otesha Tour!

We shared these wonderful anecdotes with our fellow friendleagues on Facebook this month, but in case you missed them you can read them all by clicking the pictures below!

We bid farewell to Elly

Elly Bio Pic 2

After 2 and a half years as Otesha's Director of Operations, Elly Adeland, our dear friendleague, will be starting a new job with the Nobel Women's Initiative.

Coming from a social justice, theatre and biking background Elly has always easily contributed to the sweetness of the Otesha community. Her leadership and dedication towards guiding the strategic direction of the organization has been imperative, and her organization, amazing work ethic, and inspiring dedication has been a real contribution to Otesha. The funk and spunk that she brought to the office is irreplaceable! Though she will be dramatically missed (picture a tableau of pouty lipped O-staff), we wish Elly all the best in her future endeavours. May the wind be at your back, and the air be in your tires Elly.

The Otesha Board of Directors will resume the application process to hire a new Executive Director shortly. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for future updates.

Danielle and Mischa are two Olumni from the IMPACT! Champions program, with The Natural Step Canada, CISED, HUB Ottawa and The Otesha Project. Check out their journey they will be embarking on this summer!

In the summer of 2014, Seed by Seed speakers Mischa and Danielle will embark on a cycling tour across Canada, delivering presentations and workshops to schools and youth groups. Our tour aims to raise awareness about food issues to empower students to create local and global change through their everyday choices, and to create action plans that focus on reconnecting their health, communities and the environment to a sustainable food system. This three month tour starts out west in Victoria BC on May 3rd, with the final stop St. Johns Newfoundland by the end of July. The bike tour is the kick-start of the Seed by Seed project, and combines several values of the organization; speaking, cycling, adventure and connecting with the environment and people across the country. If you have any contacts who would be interested in having Seed by Seed visit your school, have places to stay, or want to learn more please contact us through out website at www.seedbyseed.ca or e-mail us at mischa@seedbyseed.ca.

     Peace and Bike Grease,

 Kayla, Matt, Elly, and Cedric
