2 Tours a success, 1 more to go!

Otesha has been busy this month after launching and completing 2 tours, our Nation to Nation tour and Pedal to Plate tour. Both tours went off without a hitch (well...technically they had hitches for their trailers). Check out photos, the tour blog posts and more for the Pedal to plate tour and Nation to Nation tour.

West Coast Tour is Launching!
This month, we will be launching our final tour this year, our 2 month West Coast Tour! This epic journey will take 13 participants around the Vancouver area, eastwards to Chilliwack and back westward along the Sunshine Coast and finishing off in Victoria. This cycling and performing tour will be delivering our new and improved workshops and theatre play, Cycling Through Change, to over 4000 students along the West Coast. Sign up for their Notes From The Road blog to stay up to date on their travels.

Another Goodbye

Corina Pinto, our summer intern, has finished her internship with us and will be continuing her studies at Ottawa University. Her strong work ethics, constant positive energy, delicious meals and willingness to learn will be surely missed in the office. Good luck on your studies Corina!

IMPACT! Sustainability Champions Training PLUS - Ottawa

The Otesha Project is teaming up with The Natural Step, CISED and HUB Ottawa to deliver a scaled-up version of The Natural Step's IMPACT! Sustainability Champions Training. The IMPACT! program is a weekend long intensive training course that helps participants deepen their sustainability understanding, enhance their confidence as young leaders, and empower them with the tools and support to develop and launch successful sustainability projects and social enterprises in their region. Following each training, each participant is expected to develop and implement a local sustainability project or social enterprise that will help transform and better their community.

This fall, Otesha will be adding a 3-day educational cycling tour to this program for participants to explore and experience sustainability hands-on (September 27-29 in the Ottawa region).  The entire program will also include an extra day added to the Impact workshops with new content from the Centre for Innovative Social Enterprise Development (workshop October 4-6 in downtown Ottawa), plus access to 4 months of membership at HUB Ottawa, custom-tailored incubation, expert coaching...and more! It's going to be a really exciting program.

If you are between 19-25 and a student, or if you know of anybody that you think would be interested in this program, you can apply today

Canada’s National Organic Week, taking place from September 21st to 28th, is the largest annual celebration of organic food, farming and products across the country. Hundreds of events across the country showcase the benefits of organic agriculture and its positive impact on the environment. Last year, events included anything from pickling workshops to recipes contests, farm tours, or organic food and drink tastings in retail locations across the country. If you want to get involved in organic week this year, check out what's happening in your area here at or plan an event in your own community!

Opportunity Knocks

OBEC's Sense of Place Tour

The Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City is hosting and organizing a self-guided tour of 10 sites around Ottawa that shows different aspects of Ottawa's sustainability. A tour book will be available to guide cyclists, drivers and bus users on the route and explain how each site relates to sustainability. This initiative will be launched on Saturday, September 14, 2013. If you would like to read about Themes of Sustainability, visit the website here.
The Sustainability Tour launch will be on September 14 at Richelieu Park.  Between 8 :30am and 10am, there will be pancakes offered at the Vanier Sugar Shack. After filling up on delicious pancakes, a guided tour will begin!  The organizers are looking for super cool cycling volunteers to lead the pack from Vanier to Major Hill’s Park. If you are interested in leading a tour during tour launch, get in contact with Jim Birtch at james.i.birtch@gmail.com.

Pepy Tours
pepy ride
Are you a keen cyclist who also has the travel bug? Our friends over at PEPY Tours run a cross-Cambodia cycling challenge called the PEPY Ride, and we think you should know about it… The PEPY Ride is an annual cycling adventure that takes peddlers from famous temples and sun-drenched beaches to rarely-traveled roads and bustling city streets. If you’re up to the challenge, you’ll not only see some of Cambodia’s most spectacular landscape at the local pace, but also be introduced to new ideas, cultures, foods, traditions, and of course friends. Best of all? All of the money raised from this adventure will go to supporting PEPY Tours’ sister NGO PEPY (Promoting Education, emPowering Youth). By signing up to the PEPY Ride you can help create a lasting impact, and support PEPY in empowering young Cambodians to achieve their dreams. Wrap your tongue around new Khmer words over breakfast; wrap your mouth around new dishes you’ve just learned to make over lunch; spend the afternoon wrapping your mind around the magnificence of the mighty Angkor Wat. Do this all while raising money to support youth leadership and education programs in rural Siem Reap.

If you’re an O-lumni of Otesha Tours, then you’re in luck because PEPY is offering a generous promotion to O-lumni. So don’t miss out on this inspiring trip! To get more information or
register for the adventure, email info@pepytours.com. Thank you, and happy cycling!
