The CalloutCALLING ALL HOPEFUL HOOLIGANS!Are you concerned about your community’s daily impact on the Earth and its inhabitants? Do you want to see more bikes, staggered showers, recycled paper, logo-free sweatshop-free clothing, fair trade coffee, organic food, and reusable plastic containers in your community? Can you groove it up like a funkmaster? If so, The Otesha Project is looking for ACTors like you! What is the Triple-h program?Since 2004, 25 teams of students across Ontario have participated in the Hopeful
High school Hooligan (Triple-h) program. Each team, made up of 10-15 students,
was trained to perform the Otesha Choices play during an intensive weekend
training session. Together, teams have performed to more than 9,000 of their
peers! This winter, we are looking for five dedicated teams in the Ottawa area. Selected
teams will be trained at the Otesha Jam and perform at schools, conferences,
and other events throughout the year. What is an Otesha Jam?The Otesha Jam will bring together 50 students from five Triple-h teams for an unforgettable, funk-tastic weekend! It will be held in the Ottawa area from February 20-22, 2009 and will train teams in leadership, sustainability issues, theatre, public speaking, and how to have loads of fun. The weekend will culminate in an open performance of the Otesha Choices play, giving teams the chance to showcase their new-found skills. How much does it cost? Thanks to the generous support from the Ottawa community we have been able to keep
program costs to $120 per student, which we encourage students to fundraise
(email us for a copy of our “Everything you need to know about Fundraising
package”). Included in this fee is a copy of The Otesha Book, an Otesha
t-shirt, all training materials, and food and accommodation for the training
weekend. Please speak to us about bursaries if finances limit your
participation. How can I get involved? Each team will need 10-15 dedicated ACTors and a teacher supervisor
who will support them. Team members do not need any prior acting experience,
but must commit to rehearsals and performances throughout the year. If you are
already part of a club at your school, or know of a keen group of students,
contact us and we would be happy to speak to your group about the program. You can also download the school application form here.
